FAQ
-Slip Detector-

Slip detector general

Is it possible for slip detection device to detect when equipment speed increases (overspeed)?
It can be used both when speed drops below set value (descending operation) and conversely when speed increases above set value (speeding up operation).
Examples of use in speed-up operations include acceleration detection in harbor cranes and construction elevators.
Is it possible to detect slips on reversible conveyors?
Slip detection is possible on reversible conveyors. Both Speed Switch and Speed Relay can be used.
However, in case of Speed Switch, terminals to be connected differ depending on direction of rotation, so circuit must be constructed to be compatible with either direction.
What is the lowest temperature it can handle? I would like to use it in extremely cold regions as a safety switch for belt conveyors, stacker reclaimers, etc.
We have a track record of temperatures down to -30℃. However, conditions vary depending on model and environment, so please consult with us.
Can it be moisture resistant? It is assumed that safety switch will be used in a humid environment.

Standard microswitches are 85% moisture resistant. If it exceeds this, we will use microswitch that is 95% moisture resistant. However, specifications of microswitch may change due to model changes, so please check details each time.

Speed Switch

If dust adheres to sensor part of a proximity sensor type speed switch, will it malfunction?
Depending on degree of adhesion, a large amount of adhesion may cause malfunction.
As a countermeasure, please install a cover, etc. over sensor to prevent deposits from blocking magnetic field of proximity switch.
Additionally, if you have such concerns, it is also effective to select a speed switch instead of a proximity switch.

Speed Relay

Can Speed Relay be used to alarm or stop motor when equipment's rotational speed is higher than rated speed?
It can be used both when speed drops below set value (descending operation) and conversely when speed increases above set value (speeding up operation).
Examples of use in speed-up operations include acceleration detection in harbor cranes and construction elevators.
Please note that Speed Relay must be set in advance before shipping, so please let us know rated speed and set speed in advance. Setting value must be 130% or more of rated speed.
I want to use Speed Relay used on another belt conveyor. Is it possible?

When selecting Speed Relay, model is determined by belt width, belt speed, and installation method. (Please check the catalog for details.) Also, setting value of the Speed Switch must be 70% or less of belt's rated speed. As long as settings of reused items meet settings of new conveyor, it can be used. If you have any concerns about diversion, please contact us.

At that time, please let us know following conditions for existing and new belt conveyors.

① Belt conveyor width

② Rated speed of belt conveyor

③ Model and serial number of Speed Relay to be used

④ Delivery drawing of the Speed Relay if possible
